An interesting development

Seen in my LJ in-box:

James,
I’ve heard recently that you are asking people to forward you links to online complaints that were made about myself and DNA Publications, Inc. just before it went out of business. I’ve been looking into the same thing myself as many of the complaints that were posted online were flat out not true. At the time, there was nothing I could do about it. Currently, I have an attorney contacting the people who have posted actionable material to have it corrected or removed. The legal term that applies here is Resurrection Of A Lie. I'd appreciate it if you could pass along any links you think might have relevance.
Thanks.
Warren Lapine

Must be a pretty new term:

Perhaps you might ask him where such a legal term came from because I just looked in a few places and couldn't find any such.

Bullshit meter is beeping.

*raises an eyebrow* Nah. Black's goes from res universitatis to resurrender with no stops in between.

Is that a threat, or is he trying to suck up?

If he really had an attorney doing this, the attorney would be writing to you, not him.

Man, if you're gonna make shit up, at least let it be GOOD shit. No one ever wanted to smoke anything called "Denver Droll".

James, my lawyer says that not posting links about DNA's collapse is called Hiding The Truth Under A Rock, so watch out or you might be double-reverse sued.

What is "resurrection of a lie" in latin?

[identity profile] time-shark.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
My Barron's Law Dictionary contains no such term, for what that's worth.

Actually, it is a real term, and my lawyer’s name is Patrick Lyons. You might have heard of him, he also represents Harlan Ellison. He would have been the one to contact James if we had any contact info other than his Live Journal. Like Harlan he is very good at what he does, but he does not use the internet. If James would like to speak with him all he has to do is e-mail me his phone number and I’ll make that thing happen.

If it's about libel...

I'm assuming that libel laws would be involved in any postings Lapine thinks are picking on him, and most states have a one-year statute of limitations, so would be moot, right? I can't find anything on "Resurrection of a Lie". Maybe it'll show up after Easter...
