This was pointed out to me

Heh

I should check to see how much those numbers changed from the pre-GWB numbers I used to have available.

Ah, here are the old numbers. I will add a new column tomorrow, unless I don't.

For one thing, New Mexico is now Democratic. Screws up the whole chart, I think.

It'll be interesting to look at this list in four years to see how things have changed.

Yes, Virginia went Democratic, too. And I'd be interested to see how they got the Federal spending. Virginia gets a lot because of the military and federal bases/offices around here.

Yeah, between the Tidewater and the area around DC itself...

New Mexico was Democratic in James' old numbers.

Colorado, Indiana, Florida, Ohio, and New Hampshire are now all blue, and pay their own way in James's chart -- though the new chart has Indiana and being moderately in the red. Of course we're comparing 00 and 04, and possibly different financial sources.

On the new chart, updated for 08 election, Texas is the only payer state that's Republican. More of the payee states have turned Democratic but they're loosely concentrated at the bottom, near the financial tipping point.
