Con-man/thief Jean le Flambeur is the ideal person for a very tricky caper. Pity he’s banged up in an inescapable prison.

Oh this was interesting review! I haven’t read it myself but I remember being very curious indeed when it came out.

(Fun fact: Hannu Rajaniemi is Finnish, and when this was published, one of the main things our biggest newspaper focused on (in their interview) was why on earth Rajaniemi wrote in English and not in his native tongue. Apparently the fact that the market for scifi written in English is a bit bigger than pretty much anything written in Finnish wasn’t quite clear…)

The quantum entanglement handwavium in The Quantum Thief is the very highest caliber of handwavium.

I read all three books in this series, and found it brain-bending in a good way. I would say there is a fair amount of exposition, but definitely not enough to cover all the ideas and differences in default assumptions--which is a good thing, because there is so much of that it would bog things down 8-)

I remember liking this one - particularly because it used Russian and Hebrew for its technical terms instead of the more conventional Latin and Greek

Now I'm wanting a space opera where the lingua franca is Yinglish.

I was expecting this to be a link to one of the recent novels about Jewish women in space.
