I've only read Contact and The Secret Country, but I've read other books from Sagan, Swanwick, Shetterly, Finch, MacBride Allen, Ryman, Simmons, and Dean.
I was expecting Steven to answer the varying number question, but here's my guess: they put in all that get votes over a certain number.
I keep hoping Finch's Guild of Xenolinguists stories will be collected, because they're really wonderful work. She's won three awards -- Nebula, Compton Crook (for Infinity's Web) and San Diego Book Award for Best Young Adult Novel.
I once had a dream where I was Kali burning and standing on a pier. I can't tell you how many interpretations I've gotten of that over the years. People are not as fond of the dream where I was a large sorta whale-like creature, but on land, pampered by humans. I make sure to tell both at the same time.
