My Bakka saga is similar - - I live a mere ~600km from Bakka, and I first got there around 1978.
(Besides my bi-annual Expotitions to Toronto, I used to routinely day-trip down to NYC in search of half-price review copies; today I routinely order new books at a 40% discount without having to get dressed...)
Here in the days of internet-shopping-from-one's-couch, it's difficult to convey to young people just how arduous the Quest for Books used to be.
("But you try telling Young People today that, and they won't believe you, no...")
