Chaykin is a pulp fan. One of his early creation was The Scorpion, published by the short lived Atlas Comics, and set in the 1930s. Chaykin based Dominic Fortune, a '30s adventurer character he created for Marvel, on The Scorpion. He also did a version of The Shadow for DC in the '80s, as well as revamping DC's WW2 fighter pilot/mercenary series Blackhawk.

I'm fond of Chaykin's Blackhawk. It opens with the hero at a Senate hearing, defending himself from accusations of premature anti-fascism.

"Premature anti-fascism" seems to be a thing that some fools might be inclined to revive as a thing to accuse others of soon, doesn't it?
