Yay! Juniper, Gentian, and Rosemary isn't my favorite of hers, but this did make me buy Points of Departure, so yay! again!

edited to correct the title of the book I bought. Gah.

Holy cow, there's a "Dubious Hills" sequel coming eventually? Best news I've seen all day.

It's kind of a joint sequel to The Dubious Hills and to The Hedge and the Sword (The Secret Country) trilogy, but it's definitely a sequel to The Dubious Hills, which is my personal favorite novel of Dean's.

My personal favorite too. I'm nervous to read a sequel. I don't know nervous of what, possibly too much would be revealed out of what we don't understand -- if some of the non-understanding turned out to be not the intent.

This one is pretty well bound to dismantle my crankish reading of the end of TDH, but I'm not attached.

I see he decided to use Create Space, which means indie bookstores like mine won't/can't carry them--there is no discount for sales.

What is the publishing service that works best for small bookstores?

Anything that lets us do a 60/40 minimum. We usually work with CreateSpace authors who have bought their own titles and resell them, but CreateSpace itself has a lousy discount and nothing for bookstores. I most often work with people who are doing their own independent printing, which, frankly, is cheaper and more controllable for the author in the long run. If you want to get distribution through the names like Amazon you're going to get screwed as hard doing it yourself than if you do it through someone else, anyway.

I ahould point out that's 60% to the author.

Oops, that anon comment was from me, xfdryad, at work. Slinging books.

Yeah, CreateSpace sucks for bookstores unless the authors are willing to buy leftover stock from the store. That's the only way we'll do it, tbh.

But Ingram now has Ingram Publisher Services, which arereturnable - hopefully more authors will try and go that route instead.
