Because I am a terrible spoil-sport, that's why

The US is _not_ signing 14 year olds up for military service.

Like the Dan Quayle comment about wishing he'd known Latin when he visited Latin America, it never happened: Quayle never said that (Claudine Schneider attributed it to him as a joke) and the US insists on a minimum age of, I believe, 16 (After all, it's handy if they can legally drive) and the US military has yet to exploit the young adult market. The hoax just sounds plausible, given the people involved.

Mind you, now that the idea is out there, maybe the Republicans will adopt it.

What good is strange matter?

That is, if we knew where we could put our hands on some locally, what could we do with it?

Gary Trudeau, Republican Shill

No, really. Look at the original trio of characters.

Mike Doonesbury is a Republican, happily married to a much younger woman whose family was murdered by Communists in the 1970s. His previous wife was an insane artist and although I don't think they ever _said_ she was a Democractic Party
voter, I think she was still around when Mike came out of the closet and reacted badly.

BD, of course, is a Republican who volunteered for military duty in combat zones three times.

Mark the former Communist Activist is in a dead end job. In contrast, his lover, a Republican, is wealthy and successful.

I can go on. Compare and contrast Lacey Davenport (R) to the man she defeated back in the 1970s (Ventura, I think (D)). What's her name, the woman who left her husband to look for personal growth and self-realization? She ended up working for _Lacey_. Not a Democrat, a Republican.

In defense of my old teachers

Now that I think about it, most of the teachers I had were pretty good. In particular, I don't recall any duds in the science courses and only one in English.

Gym teachers were mostly useless for me [1]. I think they had no real interest in any student as manifestly lousy at sports as I was. Actually, I think they hated me for taking up valuable time. If they had ever mastered the stone point or fire I could have been in real trouble. As it was, the only time I ever got a teacher angry enough to scream at me, it was a gym/health teacher who took offense to my pointing out that getting formally married made very sense from a tax point of view.

1: Except for the one who fired a fast ball at my head to see if I was paying attention (No).
