I adored this book when I was a kid.

Me too, although I think I like Far Side of Evil better due to the (possible spoiler) vfbyngvba gnax.

Unfortunately I didn't find Far Side of Evil until many years later.

An interesting thing about Enchantress is that you can take all the characters as being non-human, or decide that any of the three groups are actually from Earth, making the story take place in the past, the relatively near future or the far future.

Me too.

My library's copy had her name as Sylvia Louise Engdahl.

Pretty sure I've never run into her before: my first reaction to the title was "an Andre Norton juvenile?"

Sylvia Louise Engdahl worked at my local library for many years. Sadly, I never met her--or if I did, I never knew who she was--and I only read her books after she had retired. It did explain why there were so many copies of her books at that library.
