Nice. I now have an image of an emaciated dragon atop a huge pile of books, muttering "I have the most, but it might not stay that way if I don't keep getting more..." while turning a page.

It me. *^_^*;;

I've been trying to cut back HARD on my acquisition of new books and have been focusing on reading things I already own--but I still have a stupendously large number of titles on my own Mount Tsundoku. To be precise: 1,394 according to Goodreads.

I've gotten rid of a stupendous number of books that were sitting in storage since I moved in with my wife after we married 13 years ago. My acquisitions have been over 90% from either Apple iBooks or other sources that I can rip the DRM and turn 'em in to ePubs. And the purge resumes next month now that the snow is gone.

I do periodic purges of my print books, yeah. Though really, most of my TBR is virtual at this point--a bunch of ebooks of various forms that I already own, as well as a bunch of stuff I don't even actually own yet, but just want to read because I thought those titles sounded cool. :)

(I've got a few hundred identified things I will check out from the library at some point, since I kinda want to see them but don't want to commit to owning them until I do.)

Good luck on your ongoing purge!

I have at least 300 or so. "Or so" because the edges are blurry: I count books started but not read into very far, but do not count books acquired with no expectation of doing a through read any time soon (reference, cookbooks, etc.).

As I read a little over a book a week on average, I have about six years stored-up reading, on top of my normal acquisition rate.

I find it vaguely hilarious that I have read more books on the "books I haven't read list" than is the norm for me for books on your "should read lists".

Now, a glacier's created when each winter's fall of snow
Is just a little heavier than summer's sun makes go...
Of books he had too many, and of reading time a lack
And of this situation, there was born - a TO-READ STACK!

So many books, so many books
It really doesn't matter what your reading speed
There's too many books, too many books,
Too many books to read.

"I have an unexplained talent for monetizing my hobbies. For example, I have a gig where get paid for standing very still for a surprisingly long time. I basically get paid to cosplay Stone Boy."

I have a job like that too. It's called 'life modeling', and the costume is literally non-existent! It pays $20 to $25 an hour. If you want to give it a try, I could probably get you a gig.
