One of Huitzi's blind spots has been a general lack of ranged attacks. Given their mobility usually an issue but after the problems with the Skull in the last session, I decided to buy Throwing Mastery just in case:

"You have a +1 damage bonus with thrown weapons per
rank in this advantage. You can also throw normally harmless objects—playing cards, pens, paper clips, and so
forth—as weapons [...]".

Normally I am playing catch up with Huitzil, addressing issues that never come again but this time? Hilarity ensued.

As Dragoneye floats over the rooftops of Steel City's China Town, he sees an older man beckoning him from the ground. The amiable old fellow hands a kid named Jasper Thompson to return to Mr. and Mrs. Thompson. Assuming little Jasper is lost, Dragoneye accepts, picks up Jasper and floats back into the sky.

Instead of giving Dragoneye directions, Jasper begins to explain how his parents were murdered, which is brutally. This is off-putting but somehow Dragoneye cannot stop listening, which is how the wolf manages to get into a position where it can leap up and latch onto Dragoneye's leg.

The good news is, Hexenwolf didn't manage to actually hurt Dragoneye; Dragoneye's defenses are very good. The bad news is, now Dragoneye has a psychopathic boy in his arms and a wolf clamped onto his leg. And things are going to get worse.

Thinking quickly, Huitzil explains that they are so intent on justice that they harried the miscreants to hell itself! Sadly, the Yama King explains while that's very nice, he's going to kill everyone because you have to be dead to be in his court and here everyone is. The Yama King is a bit of a dick.Read more... )

Since the military is not set up to contain Dreadnaughts, the German prisoners are tied up securely and dragged off to Magister Angle's tower where they can rot in his magical prison. Only though a bizarre sequence of events could anything go horribly wrong.

Interesting bit of trivia: the Dreadnaught who got away has luck powers.

It's April 7 1941 , 24 hours before the Yama King will be killed by Magister Angle. The Sentries plus Dragoneye appear near an antiaircraft battery in the vicinity Liverpool. Given recent events, the local soldiers can be forgiven for jumping to conclusions, particularly since Vieno looks a little like Kreigsvogel*, one of the German "Dreadnaughts", as their superhumans are called.

I missed the session before this. Long story short: with the help of Dragoneye, latest in a line of Chinese sorcerers, the team managed to defeat the alien who was planning on converting humans into an army of super-humans to throw at the Devourer. Earth is saved! Some other places are doomed! Messiahs or what?

For some reason Dragoneye was not offered membership in the Sentries. Or in the Future Foundation, for that matter.

I missed one episode: all I know is someone shut down Huitzil's abilities and then hit them hard enough that they were out of it for the whole session.

When Huitzil regains consciousness, they and the rest of the groud are in an unfamiliar city populated by brightly coloured humanoids. The sky has two moons and no zeppelins, so this is an alien world and not alternate history. Read more... )

Picking up where we left off last week: outraged by human water pollution, the King of the Atlantians (who are just a bunch of aliens appropriating a Greek tale) has unleashed monstery wrath on Steel City, specifically Zug Island. Why Zug Island? Is it the hum?

Which is to say automatic hit, dodge save for deduced damage, I've decided to spend a point on evasion for the +2 on the save. Also, because my character's complications have not been coming up, I've added "Relationship: That's not my Rogue's Gallery, that's my client list" to Vieno's complications.

Speaking of research, it turns out Michigan is a Stand Your Ground state:

SELF-DEFENSE ACT (EXCERPT)
Act 309 of 2006

780.972 Use of deadly force by individual not engaged in commission of crime; conditions.

Sec. 2.

(1) An individual who has not or is not engaged in the commission of a crime at the time he or she uses deadly force may use deadly force against another individual anywhere he or she has the legal right to be with no duty to retreat if either of the following applies:

(a) The individual honestly and reasonably believes that the use of deadly force is necessary to prevent the imminent death of or imminent great bodily harm to himself or herself or to another individual.

(b) The individual honestly and reasonably believes that the use of deadly force is necessary to prevent the imminent sexual assault of himself or herself or of another individual.

(2) An individual who has not or is not engaged in the commission of a crime at the time he or she uses force other than deadly force may use force other than deadly force against another individual anywhere he or she has the legal right to be with no duty to retreat if he or she honestly and reasonably believes that the use of that force is necessary to defend himself or herself or another individual from the imminent unlawful use of force by another individual.

which I imagine is going to interact with the city having a couple of hundred new supers in interesting ways. For example, some of the Stormers probably have distinctive appearances now without an associated improvement in bullet resistance and one can assume a certain level of kill-crazy gun nuts foaming at the mouth in paroxysms of paranoia and xenophobia in any given American city.

A young woman wakes in what appears from the inside to be an exceptionally crappy coffin. Baffled since the last thing they remember is being at the Occupy rally, she explores her environment. The lid lifts a bit, letting her see daylight and hear the voice of Jerry Wahl, low life to many but "Uncle Jerry" to her. This is a hopeful sign since Jerry's a friend of her parents but since Jerry is a professional crook, it's entirely possible he was hired to kidnap her.

This last would be an exceptionally bad idea since her parents used to be known as Dark Silver and Chicle. They may be retired but they still have all their superpowers and the skills they picked up as career super-villains in Canada. Still, best to be careful.

On examination she is in a hidden compartment in a van, the sort of compartment one might use to smuggle stuff. The shipping crate she is in has a label that completely fails to mention there is a woman hidden inside. It seems that someone was planning on smuggling her to Canada.

While straining to overhear the conversation going on outside the van, she discovers that she now has the ability to see and hear remote locations. Sweet! She'd always wanted powers. Using the vast body of knowledge that earned her a spot as io9's anonymous supers blogger, she begins to run through the standard checklist to see what powers she has, or as much of it as she can do in a crate.

Her remote viewing has enough range to see what is going in a room far above her in the office tower whose alley the van is parked in. She can see a young woman, what appears to be a teenager of indeterminate sex and a man-shaped form of crackling electricity. But they are not alone.

When last we saw our characters, the Confederacy of Justice - an amalgamation of three teams and yes, the name was picked to appeal to Southerners - showed up. You'd think a national team would shell out for the teased mole brains or whatever the kids are making mind-shields out of these days but nope, the city elemental Urbanity yells something about "Get out of my head" and then hucks a ten ton hunk of pavement at Mr. Hightower.

I think this is the very first campaign I've been in where the setting was a border town. Probably just as well one of the characters is Canadian.
