I'm honestly a bit disappointed and concerned - at this point the only thing that will both satisfy me and keep the nation from getting far worse is for 45 to go asap, and for that to happen, he needs a mixture of deeply corrupt greedheads like Kushner and Ivanka Trump, and cynical nihilists like Bannon feuding with each other and egging on his worst impulses. I remain horrified that anyone in the press or Congress will start thinking of 45 as legitimately presidential, because he really isn't, and Bannon leaving may take some of the heat off.

OTOH, this looks like Bannon's choice, which either means he can't handle Kelly as Chief of Staff (which from my PoV is bad, since Kelly might bring order to the White House, but the last thing the world needs is 45 being more functional and able to get things done), or alternately, he might be leaving because he sees Mueller closing in. At this point, it's impossible to tell.

Trump's "pivots" never last more than about a day or two, because the problem is at the top. He cannot help himself. Bannon was actually probably behind Trump's longest-ever period of relatively good behavior, which was the last couple of weeks of the presidential campaign while the Comey letter story was destroying Hillary Clinton. I think that without Bannon he's more likely to act completely deranged in public.

Trump's 'pivots' never last more than a day or two because he's King Ubu. A King Ubu, moreover, with more than a touch of dementia.

Good luck predicting that.

This may not be as good a thing as some people want it to be.

Now he's got Robert Mercer funding him, and he no longer has the White House's leash on him. Expect full-on Nazism from Breitbart as he unleashes his propaganda war.

And he had that security clearance for about seven months, and who knows what info he's walking out of the White House with?

Does the US have something analogous to the Official Secrets Act that would open him up to arrest if he started yakking about things he found out while in a privileged context? I would expect so?

Yes, from Bannon's POV Trump was only ever a useful tool, and his use is pretty much exhausted at this point. As somebody said on Twitter, for Bannon Breitbart isn't the propaganda arm of the White House, the White House is the direct-action wing of Breitbart.

Bannon is just shifting offices. Nothing substantive has changed.

Man, I remember seeing that movie when it came out! Whenever I see Williams I think of it.
