I wonder how long it will take the shadowy figures behind the Dragon Awards to count the votes?

I wonder to what degree the award has been gamed by the puppies?

I really have to wonder whether the puppies are allowing themselves to understand that an award you have to cheat to win is worthless? Or do they think that by cheating they've made some kind of 'statement' about how 'worthless' all awards are to make themselves feel better about not winning the ones they think are important?

Remember that the point was to get the sales boost from the Hugo for the books of their ringleader. Everything else is just a side show conveniently illustrating the depth of these people's bigotry.

And would they get that boost when it's known that they cheat? The point of awards is that the work is supposed to merit the award, not that someone cheats to win it.

Even if it were widely known that they cheat - I'm still encountering online people who know the Hugos exist yet haven't noticed the Puppy antics - they'd also need a significant number of them to care. And it's obvious there are a lot of people whose reaction to cheating is to admire the cheater.

Known to whom?

The number of people who know and care about any of that drama is only a tiny fraction of the number of random people in bookshops who see an awards blurb on the cover and decide to check out the book based on that.

That last thing. "These awards are meaningless because I never win one and are also gameable! Let me show you how meaningless they are by devoting all my energy to rigging the vote!"

Tell it to the orange sitting in the white house.

Derangement to the max syndrome going on here.

I think aside from the dinosaur porn and Vox getting nominated for an editor slot, they were absent from the Hugo ballot.

That was also my opinion.  I voted No Award above the dinosaur porn.  Looking at Vox's blog, they definitely thought the Dragon Award was more gameable, so we shall see what happens.  Their one problem is that the people who run that award and the voters are fully aware of what Vox et al did with the Hugos, so they're aware and will be watching.... I made the mistake of cruising Vox's blog, just to see what the rest of it was like.  Man, what a mistake that was.

Aw, you forgot your memetic prophylactic? I hate when that happens. And James reminds us about it periodically, too.

Judging from the results to date, I'd say the answer to the first question is "forever".

You'll note "ability to count" is an assumption.

I'm pretty sure the votes were counted and totaled, abs the winners determined before the voting ended. It's just more efficient that way.

The myth the Puppies seem to be working under is "The Hugos are fixed and we're not in the ruling cabal that gives awards to Tor favorites. We'll create our own award and give it our friends and favorites awards.
